Organisation of the Junior Teams of Clarence District Cricket Club

Like many sports and community organisations around the country, CDCC relies on volunteers for its survival.  There are a couple of ways in which you can ensure that the Club is here into the future to provide opportunities for your child.

1.      Organising Committee

There are opportunities available for parents to assist with organising enrolments, coaches, rosters, equipment and liaison with the TCA.  There are no paid officers of the club and we rely on parents to come forward to help.  Without voluntary  assistance, there will be no club.

2.      Match Day Roles

On match days, help is required from parents for the following duties:

-           Match manager

-           Setting out of the ground (setting up the stumps, laying out the ground markers)

-           Scoring

-           Umpiring

-           Taking care of the equipment and making sure it is accounted for

Please talk to your child’s coach and take on a role to make sure matches run smoothly.

Safety of Players

Safety of players is of paramount importance.  Failure to meet the following guidelines will mean that play will stop and will not resume until the requirements are met.

Batsmen

All batsmen must wear the following protective equipment:

-           Helmet

-           Batting gloves

-           Thigh pad

-           Batting pads

-           Box (groin protector)

While boxes are provided by the club, it is recommended that you buy one for your child.  Boxes are available at sports stores for a few dollars.  Boxer shorts must not be worn while playing as they do not allow for the box to be held in place.  It is recommended that batsmen wear two pairs of hipster-type underpants, allowing the box to be worn between them.

Fielders

Fielders must be no closer than 10 metres from the batsman.

Wicketkeepers

Wicketkeepers must wear the following protective equipment:

-           Helmet

-           Wicketkeepers gloves

-           Wicketkeepers pads

-           Box

Equipment

For junior teams, the club does provide equipment.  Players are free to use their own equipment if they so desire.

A significant amount of money is spent each season on club equipment.  Unfortunately, at the end of each season when the kits are returned, there is often equipment missing or ruined.  Please assist by making sure that the kit is respected by players and checking that all equipment is returned at the end of training or matches.  Having a parent (or two) take on the role of property manager for the team is a great way of making sure the gear ‘does the distance’.

Team Allocation

The committee will do their best to ensure that requests for children to be allocated to particular teams are met.  However, this is not always possible.  The club does have a selection policy which is attached for your information.

Behaviour

As representatives of the club, players and parents are expected to maintain appropriate behaviour.  Foul language, abuse or sledging will not be tolerated.

Policy: Allocation of Players to Junior Teams

Allocation

The CDCC Junior Sub-committee is responsible for the allocation of individual players to teams.  The allocation is made on the following considerations:

The age of the player – this standard conforms to the age group guidelines set by the Tasmanian Cricket Association (TCA).  Under these guidelines, it is permissible for a player to play in a higher age group but not to play in a younger age group.

The number of players who enrol to play in each age group for the club.  The number will dictate the number of teams submitted to the TCA to be placed on the age group roster.  Ideally, each team will have 11 players or more.

Preferences of the players / parents to be allocated to a particular team.

Any preferences for players to be allocated to a particular team as indicated on the enrolment form will be taken into account by the committee.  There will be priority given to players who have previously played together in a CDCC team.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to meet preferences.  The committee requests that parents and players understand the difficulties in putting teams together and take that into account prior to taking further action.

Any grievance related to allocation to a team is to be addressed in writing to the CDCC Junior Sub-committee.
